Welcome to ERF, where your
wedding flower dreams come true

We provide our environmentally conscious clients with the highest level of garden-inspired design using 100% of our farm’s regeneratively grown flowers and foliage. Full Service clients can expect the following general outline of procedures in the process of securing our highest level of flowering service:

  • We are flower GROWERS, and all our wedding blooms and foliage grow right outside the studio’s windows, where we interact with them daily. Since we grow from seed, corm, bulb, & tuber in our greenhouse, we care for the plant throughout its entire life cycle and choose carefully what new crop will follow each and every stem we harvest for our design work. We lovingly grow, harvest and arrange all our own material right here on our family farm in Maine, using zero harmful chemicals and fully regenerative methods. We never purchase flowers or foliage from overseas, and we never use floral foam or other harmful products in our designs. All our flowers are grown using sustainable, beyond organic methods beneficial to wildlife and the people who live and work on our farm.

  • Someone who cares about the environment and will not sacrifice the health of our planet for their special event yet dreams of the most unique and individualized wedding experience featuring the highest quality flowers and designs tailored to their unique vision and aesthetic.

  • We supply florists and designers with our spectacular flowers, but we reserve our truly exceptional blooms for our own wedding clients.

On our farm there is endless, fresh material. We walk the fields just hours before styling for those last-moment details, so we have the advantage of choosing flowers at their ideal stage for design. Flowers are custom-grown for your special day, and an individualized growing plan is created upon booking with our full service clients.

Every stem is fresh and never out of water; our blooms have not traveled thousands of miles in a box or been sprayed with anything harmful. Since we do not ship, this allows us to use flowers that are more delicate, and that have not been bred to withstand the rigors of shipping. Our flowers have incredible fragrance and beauty, and their stem strength and saturated or muted colors in large part come from our incredible field fertility.

When styling, we often find we need that little extra something, so we search for that final touch from our fields to make your bouquet absolutely stunning.

We offer the highest level of garden-inspired design using our farm’s own regeneratively grown stems with exceptional customer service, and everything is styled on-site in our 1840s barn, just steps from where the flowers begin their lives as seedlings.

Hiring us to grow and style for you ensures that our farm family can engage in the good work of nurturing this land and its creatures every day; our wedding clients support this cycle of life, and are a part of this larger whole, caring for our EARTH for future generations, ensuring that this piece of land is nutrient dense, and can provide for future generations.

We guarantee our flowers and services for your date once booked.

  • We do a limited number of unique and high-style full-service weddings each season. This enables us to offer our clients who strongly value flowers in the overall experience of their wedding design the opportunity to partake in the highest level of personalization, exceptional service, and attention to detail. If your vision includes wedding florals completely unique to your own story, hiring ERF to style your wedding flowers is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

  • We grow delicate, fragrant, and unique flowers that are difficult to find. We focus on high-value blooms from the most exclusive growers like Dutch perennials, Italian ranunculus, King’s heirloom chrysanthemums, giant Colibri Icelandic Poppies bred in Italy, rare and unique dahlias, and premium Japanese Lisianthus, along with English cottage garden favorites too delicate to ship, such as fragrant sweet peas, medicinal yarrow, and romantic cosmos.

We are a Specialty Cut flower farm, so we strive to grow unique, difficult-to-find flowers and foliage that are stand-outs from what would be found anywhere else. We grow seasonally, so flower varieties are ever-changing with the weather.

In very early spring, we focus on heirloom narcissus, bulb crops, and specialty tulips with double ruffled layers & wild parrot-types. In later spring, we grow under the cover of three 100’x16’ unheated high tunnels to grow the most beautiful ranunculus, Iceland poppies, sweet peas, fragrant stock, Scoop scabiosa, along with our field peonies in blushes and white, salmons and corals, which are some of the most stunning focal blooms for large arrangements. To compliment those spring beauties, heirloom, English cottage garden favorites like lilacs, mock orange, flowering branches, foxglove, columbine, snapdragons, and delphinium offer texture and fragrance.

During the summer, colors get hotter, like the bright yellows of rudbeckia, pinks of dahlias, and oranges of zinnias, likening arrangements to favorite hot weather treats…berries and cream, sherbet ice, and delicious melons. The softness of Cherry Caramel phlox and sweet button-like feverfew give bouquets a fresh garden appeal, and the arching stems of cosmos are the most romantic touch.

Through late summer into autumn colors get saturated and rich, offering greater texture and depth which mimic the longer rays of sun and shortening day length. Flowers like heirloom chrysanthemums take on jeweled tones in burgundy, wine, and burnt orange with golden reverse petals. Seed heads develop on our celosia and amaranth, fun to add as a sparkle to arrangements, and tens of thousands of flowers burst forth in a last-ditch effort to create their little proteges for the following season; cutting nearly daily is critical to stave off their final push to produce seed.

We love to play with these blooms at the height of their textural and colorful glory, just bursting forth with joy as a final hurrah of the season.

  • Since we are committed to using only sustainably grown, local material seasonally appropriate for Maine, we enjoy sharing our years of growing experience to familiarize couples with the fresh material typically expected during the season of their wedding. We have the best involvement working with couples who allow us the design freedom of choosing specific flowers and foliage the week of their wedding to best represent their unique vision and aesthetic. Because of our seasonal approach, we can only offer local floral design from mid-May through October. We are happy to refer you to some of our excellent floral colleagues if you are planning a winter wedding.

  • The first step is to send us an email.

We will inquire as to your budget and wish list, and share with you a Client Questionnaire to fill out. If you do not yet have a vision for your flowers, we can help! A consultation via phone, in-person, or virtual, is the next step for full-service orders.

As soon as possible after our consultation, we provide you with a proposal, mood board, and contract to review. There are no surprises or extra charges; everything is clear and flexible, and once booked, edits can be freely made until a month prior to the wedding day.

Our design philosophy

Design is like a breathing, flowing river, naturally drawing us in to capture us in its splendor and beauty, taking us on a journey, maybe inspiring a moment of calm and peace, and setting the stage for something special. As a tree grows in nature, there is a clear base, from which branches reach upward, twist and curve, and create interest, spilling over into the next tree in the landscape. For an arrangement to look completely natural, flowers also need space in a vessel. To master each garden-inspired design, every stem has a specific place in an arrangement that feels right and allows the whole to flow and breathe.

The arrangements we style feel natural, and create a story; the elements belong together. We begin designing by focusing on structural components and overall shape, using larger branches and arching stems. As we add our first flowers, we focus on movement; flowers are placed at different levels so the overall design seems to flow and feels full of life. Color allows us to be playful in many ways: by altering value, hue, temperature, intensity, opacity or luminosity, complementary stems are woven together to create contrast for the eye. As a classically trained flutist, I see floral design as I’d perform the music of an Impressionist composer like Claude Debussy, with its blurred lines and larger harmonic shifts. When focus is on mood rather than individual flowers, an atmosphere is created. Emotion can take hold, and flowers can draw us in. My grandmother, an oil painter, would have appreciated the medium of flowers in the field, the vase, and in the hand, beginning as a tiny seed, yet packed full of all the universe in a single orb of darkness, waiting to live.
